7到8句的的英语故事:The hart in the ox-stall

牛栏里的雄鹿

A hart was being pursued by some dogs. It ran into an ox-stall, and hid itself in a truss of hay. Only the tips of its horns could be seen.

一只雄鹿被猎狗追赶得很急,跑进牛栏里,躲在一大堆干草里面,只有鹿角尖露在外面。

Soon after the hunters came to the stable, and asked if anyone had seen the hart. The stable boys looked around, but could see nothing. So the hunters went away.

猎人们很快来到牛栏,询问是否有人看到这头鹿。牧童们四处张望,什么也没有看到,于是猎人们走了。

Later the master came in. He looked around, and saw that something unusual was there.

不久,主人回来了,他四处检查时,觉得有些异常。

He pointed to the truss of hay, and asked, "What are those two strange things?" When the stable boys went to look, they discovered the hart.

他指着那堆干草问:“那两个怪模怪样的东西是什么?”牧童们上前来翻寻,发现了那只鹿。

披着狮皮的驴

An ass once found a lion's skin. He put it on, and walked towards thevillage.

有头驴发现一张狮子皮,他披着狮子皮走进村庄。

All fled when he came near,both men and animals.

所有的人和动物见到他走过来都逃走了。

The ass felt quite proud. He lifted his voice and brayed, but then everyone knew him.

驴感到很得意,他高声地嘶叫,却被人认了出来。

His owner came up and gave him a sound whipping.

他的主人跑过来打了他一顿。

Shortly afterwards,a fox came up to him and said, "Ah, I knew it was you by your voice."

不久,一只狐狸也跑过来,对他说:“哦,你一张嘴我就知道你是驴。”

两口锅

There were two pots on the bank of a river. One was made of brass, and the other was made of clay.

河中漂流着一个瓦锅和一个铜锅。

When the water rose they both floated off down the river. The earthen pot tried to stay away from the brass one.

每当潮涨潮落时,瓦锅就尽量地远离铜锅。

So the brass pot cried out, "Fear nothing, friend, I will not hit you."

铜锅大叫:“别害怕,朋友,我不会撞你的。”

"But I may come in contact with you," said the earthen pot. "If I come too close, whether I hit you or you hit me, I shall suffer for it."

“但是我有可能会和你接触,”瓦锅对铜锅说,“如果我离你太近,无论是你碰到我,或者是我自己不小心碰到你,我都会碎的。”

After that the earthen pot floated away.

然后,瓦锅就漂走了。

驴和买驴的人

A man wanted to buy an ass. He went to the market, and saw a likely one. But he wanted to test him first.

一个买主到市场上去买驴,他看中一头外表不错的驴,但是他想要牵走试一试。

So he took the ass home, and put him into the stable with the other asses. The new ass looked around, and immediately went to choose a place next to the laziest ass in the stable.

他把驴牵回家,放在自己其他的驴之间,这驴四处看看,立即走向一头好吃懒做的驴旁边。

When the man saw this he put a halter on the ass at once, and gave him back to his owner.

于是,买驴的人立刻给那头驴套上辔头,牵去还给驴的卖主。

The owner felt quite surprised. He asked the man, "Why are you back so soon? Have you tested him already?" "I don't want to test him any more," replied the man, "From thecompanion he chose for himself, I could see what sort of animal he is."

卖主感到很奇怪,他问买主:“你怎么这么快就回来了?”买主说:“不必再试了,从他所选择什么样的朋友来看,我已经知道他是什么样了。”
