A Miser Man

A very stingy(吝啬的) man who had no pleasure but that of making money sold his all, namely, his place and fields, and forged all the money he received into a mass of gold, and buried it in the ground. Every day he visited the spot, which was one of his daily greatest pleasures.

Then a man who occasionally came to the neighborhood saw this miser digging up the earth with joy. When this neighbor went there and dug the earth, he found a buried treasure, to his great astonishment. He resolved to run off with(偷走) it outright. When the miser came to the spot the following day, he found his treasure missing, to his great amazement. It furious agony(苦恼) and desperation, he cursed God and man tearing his hair like a mad man.

When a pedestrian(行人) asked his of his bitter sorrow, the miser told his story in great detail, but the passenger comforted and consoled him, saying, "You need not cry over your loss of treasure. I think your loss is not so great as you think. Bury in that place a stone of the same size in place of your mass of gold, and regard it as your lost one. You will hardly tell the difference the two, because, as far as you are concerned, gold is all one with a stone in point of utility." Happiness does not consist in owning money, but in reasonable using of it.

A man and a Satyr having struck up an acquaintance, sat down together to eat. The day being wintry and cold, the man put his fingers to his mouth and blew opon them. "What's that for, my friend?" asked the Satyr. "My hands are so cold," said the man, "I do it to warm them."

In a little while some hot food was placed before them, and the man, raising the dish to his mouth, again blew opon it. "And what's the meaning of that, now?" said the Satyr. "Oh," replied the man, "My porridge is so hot, I do it to cool it."

"Nay, then," said the Satyr, "from this moment I renounce(宣布放弃) your friendship, for I will have nothing to do with one who blows hot and cold with the same mouse."

Growing into a pearl

Long long ago, there was a clam(蛤) raiser who wanted to make the biggest pearl in the world. He went to seaside to select sand grains. He asked the sand grains whether they wanted to turn into pearls , but in vain. Clam raiser despaired. Finally one agreed.

Any other sand grains all laughed at him, because he would live in the clam, and stay away from relatives and friends, and could not see sunshine, rain and dew(露水), bright moon, pleasant breeze, and could only be associated with dark, damp, cold and lonely. That would not be worthwhile.

Some years ago, the sand grain had grown into a priceless pearl. The sand grains laughed at him were still a pile of sand while some had been into soil.

If we say there are something that could catch the stone and turn it into gold, that is hardship and pain. Endure pain and insist, when you go through the long tunnel of dark and misery, the ordinary you, just as the sand grain, have grown into a peal.

Kid and Wolf

A kid was perched up on the top of a horse, and looking down saw a wolf passing under him. Immediately he began to revile and attack his enemy. "Murderer and thief," he cried "What do you do here near honest folks, horses? How dare you make an appearance where your viledeeds are known?" "Curse away, my young friend," said the wolf. "It is easy to be brave from a safe distance."
