How the First House was Built

A long time ago, humans were only as tall as hens and rabbits.

These tiny "humans", if you can call them that, lived under trees.

Living in trees was not very nice.

During rains they got wet. In summers they sweated madly, and in winter they almost froze into ice.

Life was tough.

So they started living in burrows, just the way rabbits do.

They thought that at least this way they will be dry in the rains. And in summer, they will be safe from the hot sun.

But, often, the roofs fell upon them without warning. They would get trapped inside, unable to come out.

Life was still tough.

Then the humans decided to make a tree house.

They created an umbrella of branches and leaves and lived under them.

The roof did not fall upon them.

Life became a bit better.

But the houses did not have any walls.

People continued to feel the heat and cold.

Finally, they learnt the trick of making walls.

They made the first real houses.

There was no doubt any more that it was a good life.

It became even better when the humans made houses close to each other so that they would never feel alone.

关于儿童英语故事:狼和小羊

Once upon a time a Wolf was lapping(舔) at a spring on a hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but a Lamb just beginning to drink a little lower down. ‘There’s my supper,’ thought he, ‘if only(只要,要是……多好) I can find some excuse to seize it.’ Then he called out to(召唤,大叫) the Lamb, ‘How dare you muddle(混合,浑浊) the water from which I am drinking?’

‘Nay, master, nay,’ said Lambikin; ‘if the water be muddy up there, I cannot be the cause of it, for it runs down from you to me.’

‘Well, then,’ said the Wolf, ‘why did you call me bad names(臭骂,谩骂) this time last year?’

‘That cannot be,’ said the Lamb; ‘I am only six months old.’

‘I don’t care,’ snarled(咆哮,缠结) the Wolf, ‘if it was not you it was your father;’ and with that he rushed upon the poor little Lamb and ate her all up. But before she died she gaspedout(喘着气说出) . ‘Any excuse will serve a tyrant.’

关于儿童英语故事:Hope and Tragedy

The dreamworld, it carries her through the night on wings of gold. Above the clouds of cotton, they seem so fragile but they never let her fall. She woke up and carried the piece of paper in her hands, clutching(攫,抓住) it desperately(拼命地,绝望地) . She hoped that the words would bleed(渗出,榨取) out of the paper and into reality. If only that was possible. Her eyes were focused watching the paper as it fell to the floor from her hands. She layed back down in her bad, and slowly pulled the sheets over her. She began to cry; when she heard a noice coming from the ground. She quickly pushed the blankets off of her, got up, and saw that the paper was gone.

All that was there was a white feather. She turned and ran to the window, and what she saw she would always remember. She saw a white dove(鸽子) in a tree staring back at her. It just stayed there for a while, perched(栖息) on the branch. Finally it looked up at the sky,as though it knew the freedom was there. When the girl began to speak the dove turned back to listen.

"Close your eyes and imagine a world, where everything is right, where nothing can touch you, or hurt you; Everything is just simply beautiful."

The dove flew away, but instead of being sad, she wiped the tears away and smiled up at the sky.

关于儿童英语故事:The Moon and the wind

Once upon a time, there were two very good friends who lived together in the shade of a rock. Strange as it may seem, one was a lion and one was a tiger. They had met when they were too young to know the difference between lions and tigers. So they did not think their friendship was at all unusual. Besides, it was a peaceful part of the mountains, possibly due to the influence of a gentle forest monk(僧侣) who lived nearby. He was a hermit(隐士) , one who lives far away from other people.

For some unknown reason, one day the two friends got into a silly argument. The tiger said, "Everyone knows the cold comes when the moon wanes(衰退,月亏) from full to new!" The lion said, "Where did you hear such nonsense(胡说,废话) ? Everyone knows the cold comes when the moon waxes from new to full!"

The argument got stronger and stronger. Neither could convince the other. They could not reach any conclusion to resolve the growing dispute. They even started calling each other names! Fearing for their friendship, they decided to go ask the learned(博学的) forest monk, who would surely know about such things.

Visiting the peaceful hermit, the lion and tiger bowed respectfully and put their question to him. The friendly monk thought for a while and then gave his answer. "It can be cold in any phase of the moon, from new to full and back to new again. It is the wind that brings the cold, whether from west or north or east. Therefore, in a way, you are both right! And neither of you is defeated by the other. The most important thing is to live without conflict, to remain united.Unity is best by all means."

The lion and tiger thanked the wise hermit. They were happy to still be friends.
