Love and Time

Only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is.

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.

Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.

When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,

"Richness, can you take me with you?"

Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"

"I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you."

"Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"

Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.

Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder,

Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?"

"It was Time," Knowledge answered.

"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."

The Sea at Dawn

They shuddered with cold, and ran down the road to the bridge. There, warm, they started walking hand in hand.

A flush came into the sky. The waned moon, halfway down the west, sank into insignificance. duanwenw.com On the shadowy land, things began to take life, and plants with great leaves became clear. They came to the beach. The long wastes of shore lay moaning under the dawn and the sea; the ocean was a flat dark strip with a white edge. Over the gloomy sea the sky was red. Quickly the fire spread among the clouds and scattered them. Crimson burned to orange, orange to dull gold, and in the golden glitter the sun rose. The sea became glistening, as if someone had gone along with a bucket and the light had spilled from it as she walked.

The breakers4 ran down the shore in long, hoarse strokes. Tiny seagulls, like little spray, wheeled above the line of surf. Their crying seemed larger than their bodies. Far away the coast reached, melt into the morning. The tussocky sand hills seemed to sink to a level with the beach. duanwenw.com On this shore only they watched the sea and the rising sun, and heard the faint water and the sharp crying of the gulls.

You Are the Hero

You may plan to write a book some day, but you are living a book every day. The “Great Biographer” is writing the book of your life on the pages of time. Each day is a page, and each year is a chapter.

Imagine yourself walking through the pages of time. Are you a hero or a villain? duanwenw.com See your life spread out before you as if in print, in the pages of a book. Would that book be a best-seller, or would it be a book you wish to suppress? Go to some quiet spot and think of the pages of your book. Are you proud of those pages? Can you improve the chapters that are to follow? Can you make the ending better than the beginning?

See the words you speak recorded in your book. See the deeds you do in your life. duangwenw.com Moment by moment you are building the story of your life. You control your thoughts and actions as an author of a novel controls the thoughts and actions of his characters. No matter what happens to you in the pages of time, you have the power to react like a hero!

Alexander Dumas wrote: “All the world cries, ‘Where is the man who will save us?’ Don’t look so far for this man; you have him at hand. This man is you, me, and each one of us.”
